Lactobacillus fermentum is a Gram-positive, facultative anaerobic, rod-shaped lactic acid bacterium from the Lactobacillus genus. It is naturally found in fermented foods and in the human gastrointestinal tract and oral/vaginal microbiota, and produces lactic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and antimicrobial peptides. Common applications include probiotic supplements and fermented dairy and plant-based products.
