Menthofuran is a naturally occurring organic compound found in the essential oil of several Mentha (mint) species, especially Mentha pulegium (pennyroyal) and Mentha x piperita (peppermint). It is a monoterpene furan derivative responsible for part of the aroma profile in mint oils and is sometimes used in flavorings and fragrances in very small, controlled quantities.
